Important Dermal Filler Pre-Treatment Instructions
To reduce the chance of bruising, avoid the following for 2 weeks prior to your treatment, unless prescribed by a doctor:
- Fish oil
- Aspirin
- NSAID Pain relievers – Ibuprofen/Naproxin (Tylenol OK)
- Blood Thinners (get primary physician approval first)
- Ginkgo Biloba / Ginseng / St. John’s Wort
- Vitamin E / Exotic or herbal supplements
Please arrive without makeup.
If you have a history of cold sores please let your provider know, they may put you on an anti-viral medication prior to treatment.
Schedule your filler appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event in which you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Bruising and swelling may be apparent in that time period.
Be sure to have a good meal, including food and water before treatment. This will decrease the chance of lightheadedness during your treatment.
After Care: Post-Dermal Filler Treatment
No alcohol or exercise for 24 hours after treatment
No sun exposure or exposure to excessive heat (i.e. sun exposure, sauna, hot tub) for 2 hours post treatment (Helps prevent bruising)
It is recommended that make up not be applied to treated area for 24 hours after treatment.
Do not rub or massage the area for 24 hours unless instructed to do so (Sculptra patients will receive separate instructions for massage)
It is normal to feel the filler under the skin for 4-6 weeks post treatment.
There is a risk of bruising which is only temporary and can be covered up with makeup. A bruise can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. Arnica pills and gel can be used to minimize bruising and swelling and are available for purchase at our office.
If the treated area becomes tender/painful changes color, is oozing, or if you have any other questions or concerns, please call our office right away, at 401-649-0320. After hours press #2 to reach the Doctor on call.
